Mobile Phone sim for Italy trip?

My son is going to Italy for a week. What is the best way for him to keep in touch? Is there a sim with free calls to/from italy?

buy a cheap unlocked phone, then you can buy a SIM card with minutes there

make sure it is an international phone with the proper frequency, quad-band or tri-band

Depending on his cell phone service, it may be possible that the phone company can unlock his phone for free so that you wouldn’t have to go through the hassle of paying him a new phone.

Once in Rome, tell your son to go to VodaFone and purchase a prepaid card, because their service is one of the best.

As for yourself, it would save your son lots of money if you will give him a call, because all incoming calls are free. Your son’s number will begin with 06 then 7 other numbers will follow a brief space. In order to call him from the US, you must dial 011 39 06 (7 digits that your son will give you).

Hope this helps and bid him a safe trip on my behalf! He will definitely enjoy Rome’s antiquity and great food!

I recommend using RebelFone’s Italian SIM card (link below), they have good service and cheap rates. You can order online & SIM will be delivered before he leaves, so you will have his contact number before he even leaves.

Best part is you don’t have to re-load credit, as you get billed for your usage by the end of the trip and you can either use your own un-locked cell phone or get a cheap one from them for all your future travel.
