Is Roma Termini Zone, In Rome – Italy, Safe At Night?

My wife, little daughter and I are going to Rome – Italy – soon, and we have booked a hotel near Roma Termini, next to Vittorio Emanuele II square, and we are a little worried about the safety of the zone. Is it safe?

Roma Termini has a number of good hotels on the “quiet” side ( Right facing the Station – via Cavour to via Nazionale and beyond; Left facing the Station: Piazza Indipendenza to via XX Settembre and beyond). Avoid the side going to and including Piazza Vittorio Emanuele 2. It is not “dangerous”, but peopled by a high number of vagrants, hawkers and night owls. It is not a nice place to bring your family after hours. On average Rome is very safe, Italy has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe (1,23 homicide index compared to 5,9 US and an average of 2,5 in Europe) but certain areas are better left to locals, who know how to move around.

Roma is a large city. Safety in a large city is always questionable. But there is less to fear in Rome than in most North American cities.
There are more pick pockets and panhandlers in this area but not as much violent crime as in an American or Canadian City.
Be attentive and enjoy the experience.

I am Italian and I live to Rome. My brother-in-law lives to Public square Vittorio Emanuele II with its family from many years and it is accustomed to this place. I don’t like this place and never I’ll living there. If you can change hotel, change it, I think . Via Nazionale is enough close to Roma Termini, but it is one better way, more touristic way, http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/hotellux…
I don’t know this hotel, but it is near to Termini.
otherwise also the link that it has left Cycwynner to you, http://www.rentalinrome.com/, it has one good choice of hotels in optimal touristic zones.
    Sorry for my bad english.
