I’m having a huge problem locating a job right now. I’m a Romanian Citizen and US Green Card holder.
I’m finishing my last University of Florida class via mail and actively seeking employment. I will graduate with a Political Science degree. I’ve worked for 8 years, throughout high-school too, helping my parents’ wholesale supplier company with locating and coordinating suppliers and transport from the PR China, Italy and the Czech Rep. I worked as a translator and a general contact person for suppliers, not having anything to do with sales, strictly foreign companies. Trouble is, this was for a Romanian Company and I am currently in the US, a resident alien, also none of my experience is recorded officially since I was their son I just went ahead and worked for them: document translations (including contracts and product instructions), general troubleshooting, supplier relations, transporter relations. After a while I was left pretty much on my own with vague instructions but still kept doing my job right. I was never treated as the boss’s kid, but never actually was paid a salary (I didn’t actually need it).
I’d LOVE to keep doing this, I still do it although I am in Florida I’m on the phone and internet half my nights, I enjoy it enormously, it is often very exciting and it stimulates me. I want to do this full time, or work in public administration somewhere where I could have an impact. I am ready for the next level, I speak 4 languages (En-Fr-Sp-Romanian) and I’m a hard worker I’m used w/ dealing w/ 3 time zones.
What is my “job title” in the US ? What kind of salary should I ask for? What “field” should I seek jobs in when I look for jobs online? What are some good companies I can apply to ? What’s a good alternate occupation I should look into that will still allow me to apply myself to the max? I am definitely financially motivated and having more responsibility would be a “plus”.
Thank you for bearing with me to the end of this very long description.
